BY-LAW
A by-law changing the Objectives of the Gem & Mineral Federation of Canada and authorizing the application for the issue of Supplementary Letters Patent to confirm the same.
Be it enacted and it is hereby enacted as By-law of the Gem & Mineral Federation of Canada.
1. That subject to confirmation by Supplementary Letters Patent:
(a) the provisions of the Letters Patents are amended by deleting therefrom all the objects of the Corporation and substituting therefor the following objects:
- To promote popular interest and education in the various Earth Sciences, and in particular, but not so as to restrict the generality of the foregoing, the subjects of geology, mineralogy, paleontology, gemology, lapidary, faceting and other related subjects.
- To encourage close association, cooperation and the exchange of information among individuals, clubs, federations, institutions and other groups interested therein.
- To foster and encourage the formation and development of Provincial Federations and local Clubs, such that through and by such means, will lead towards greater national goodwill and fellowship.
- To encourage as follows: The exploration for, and the conservation of; lapidary materials, minerals, fossils, and geological occurrences of interest to the membership within Canada.
- To accept and use donations, gifts, and bequests on behalf of, and in the best interests of the GMFC membership and the GMFC Scholarship Foundation Inc.
- To gather information and to provide support for the hobbyist on a Provincial or Federal basis, and with due consideration to the environmental and heritage aspects thereof.
- To provide assistance and guidance to the Regional and Provincial Federations on various legal matters as required.
- To encourage the Provincial and Regional Federations to set up sub-committees to monitor forthcoming legislation which could have serious effects on the hobby.
- To sponsor various activities of the Corporation, including at least one annual show and the General Meeting in various parts of Canada on a rotating basis.
- To make every effort to ensure that existing collecting sites and working mines remain open to collectors and that every effort be made to have such closed locations re-opened to the collectors.
- To inform mine owners, operators, and persons owning adjacent land to the mines, of the aims, objectives and guidelines of the Corporation and its members to further good relations.
- To encourage the dissemination of information of National interest to Federations, Local Clubs and their members; such as Canadian collecting locations and collecting materials, ultimately in the form of a uniquely Canadian publication to be published, eventually, on a monthly basis.
- To review the GMFC Uniform Rules for Competitive Displays on a regular basis and to make changes as required.
- To administer "The GMFC Scholarship Foundation Inc." to provide grants, bursaries or scholarships to students of the earth sciences studying in Canada. The Foundation Officers will report back to each GMFC Annual Meeting.
- To encourage Local Clubs and Provincial Federations to plan, organize and hold gem and mineral exhibits and shows in order to stimulate interest, support and participation on the part of the general public.
- To do all such acts, matters, and things as may be incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.

The above listed objectives are the amended objectives which will be voted on at the 2003 Annual General Meeting.
